Hi, I'm looking at heading to the 2011 festival with another friend from Sydney. I'm not usually this organised, but need to work things out with work so I thought that I should get started. I want to turn up in Bamako and organise someone to take us out to the festival and organise festival stuff, tents, food etc. and then a couple of days trekking in the dogon country, but it looks like because of work, we will only make it to Bamako on the 3rd of Jan. So I thought we would need to …
03-ago-2010 jo_au I am also very interested in travelling to the Desert Festival - through Mali or wherever. I have a bit of time - leaving Oz around 18 December and not due back for 13 months. I'd be interested in hearing about what you turn up our wise - there is one that Peregrine is doing for Discurio (xcellent music store here in Melb) 18 days but @ $7235 land only + $550 for regional flights - a total of $7785.00 its a bit pricey for me. The festival will be held very close to Tombouctou (the same location as last year edition). For logistic arrangements (tent and food) you may want to contact one of our partners as soon as our HUB website will be made available to the public (on September 6). In any case, food and water are available on the site (vegetarian food is quite difficult to find: better you contact one of our partner!). As regarding the tent, you may bring your tent BUT you will have to put it under a local tent that you will have to rent for. You may ask and pay for it at the Entry Gate when you will get your bracelet.

We would like to remind to all participants of this Board that trying to self organize the trip to Tombouctou is challenging and can be hazardous: you may end up using a car in very poor conditions, and/or with a "guide" who will cheat you. Be wise and very careful! We strongly recommend to get in touch with one of our partner travel agencies: even if you don't want to be in a group, they can help you organize your travel. What is really important is that you get in touch with reliable persons!
