Hi, I spend the New Year's holidays in Morocco - Merzouga, so I can fly to Bamako from Casablanka on 4th January. The plan is to hire 4x4 with driver in a local agency in Bamako and to go directly to Timbouctu. What's the real time of this trip? Can I manage to come on time on 6th January, or it's impossible? We plan to go to the Dogon's Country after the festival, so we need to prolongue our 5-days visas? Can we do it on the spot in Mopti (or the whole procedure lasts longer)? Thanks for any …

Hi There, My friend and me will be traveling to Ghana for a wedding in Ghana for New Years Eve and we want to make it for the Festival au Desert. There doesn't seem to be any flights from Accra to Bamako, Timbuktu or even Gao without going through Abidjan (which is cheapest and still quite expensive for our budget). Is anyone coming through this way and thinking of driving from Accra or Bamako if we can make there? Or do you have any tips for getting there?

The festival will be held very close to Tombouctou (the same location as last year edition). For logistic arrangements (tent and food) you may want to contact one of our partners as soon as our HUB website will be made available to the public (on September 6). In any case, food and water are available on the site (vegetarian food is quite difficult to find: better you contact one of our partner!). As regarding the tent, you may bring your tent BUT you will have to put it under a local tent that you will have to rent for. You may ask and pay for it at the Entry Gate when you will get your bracelet.

We would like to remind to all participants of this Board that trying to self organize the trip to Tombouctou is challenging and can be hazardous: you may end up using a car in very poor conditions, and/or with a "guide" who will cheat you. Be wise and very careful! We strongly recommend to get in touch with one of our partner travel agencies: even if you don't want to be in a group, they can help you organize your travel. What is really important is that you get in touch with reliable persons!
